#marchlitwrit day 24: favorite purple prose quote. JRR Tolkien gets a lot of flack for his purple prose quotes (fun fact: it may have cost him the Nobel prize) but there is no denying his writing is beautiful. Here is an excerpt from The Hobbit. “Indeed for a long time they could get nothing more out of him, he was so busy sending smoke-rings dodging round the pillars of the hall, changing them into all sorts of shapes and colours, and setting them at last chasing one another out of the hole in the roof.” This is only the first half of the paragraph describing the smoke rings. Unfortunately, it doesn’t develop character or advance the plot. However, it is wonderfully descriptive and paints a picture in your mind. . #authorappreciationmarch fairytale or retelling author #novelbeanmarch#flatlayfriday (I think these days got a little mixed up but almost everyday is flatlay Friday over here 😂) #lifeandlitmarch translate/non-English my German song book thrift store find . #readgushtag18#ibookworm 🙋🏻♀️ How old were you when you started reading? Why aren't we given time to deal with our failures? Allowed the option to quit? How long can a lame man run a rat race? How long can you force the blind to see the light? Why does it always have to be a fight? Why can't I just show my white flag and rest my head for a while? Do not talk to me about quitters never winning and winners never quitting. Some days I want to be okay with being a total loser and quitting for the sake of my own mental peace.
if this was a few summers ago i must have loved it here too where we can be lost holding hands among the crowd of broken souls but no, this was tonight when we want to believe that we have both been found and we're old enough to risk getting lost once more but you know me, and you're probably right here where the city lights can dim the stars how i wish, even just for tonight for it to be like a few summers ago x
