THURSDAY | 26.4.18 | 8:47 ———————————————— WCW | Four year’s ago I posted this on my FB and yesterday @roseyip6871 shared it again as a memory. This is in 1992 or 93 when a group of amazing women all worked @theblockgastown. This was our seasonal promotions campaign for two Canadian lines we carried @comrags and Zapata. Erian opened the store & ended up passing off the ongoing legacy to Jennifer who came to work there after this photo shoot. Our lives all went in different directions but it was a special time & a timely reminder that there have always been women supporting women. Founder @conspire2inspire_ created a unique space & community. @lorraine_finch was in a cooler than cool band called Bolero Lava. @claudiaminervamedina arrival was basically a tectonic plate shifting. All the artsy boys & men in Gastown went nuts. Barb (far right) now lives in Dublin. Suzanne (top) I used to see in my Main & Broadway neighbourhood back in the day. Erin I believe still lives in Vancouver as does Suzy (centre & left). It’s also the place I learned to make great coffee & layer lattes. I gave myself that haircut in my bathroom because everyone told me my rockstar boyfriend and I looked alike. We both had long hair & nose rings. That was the extent of our similarity. 🙄 I feel deeply grateful to the women who have shaped & supported me in my journey. My original FB write up was below. 👇🏽 • #tbt to 1993. I recall during my interview former owner Erian Baxter and Manager Suzanne asked me this question "What do you call a musician without a girlfriend?" The answer: "Homeless". The Block is still at the corner of West Cordova and Homer St. in Gastown today. One of the girls who came to work there after this photo was taken named
Still in Wednesday mode... #wcw in the early days when chemo especially was kicking my backside and I had no energy or motivation to cook for myself, this special sister friend @widianmayson with a toddler and a baby would find time to make me nourishing healthy food every week on my chemo days. Thank you for for this and more #beautifulinsideandout 💜💜💜
