Look who I found in the garden today! These #swampmilkweed plants can't be any more than a month old, they've only been in the ground for a little over a week, and already they've got big, fat, healthy #monarchcaterpillar babies munching away on them. At first I thought it was just the one, but while editing the picture, I noticed something interesting. Can you spot it? ^.^ . The swamp #milkweed is new to my arsenal of pollinator plants. Back in Florida, I only ever planted #tropicalmilkweed , because the winters usually got cold enough to freeze back some of the above-ground growth along with all the new sprouts which tend to shoot up all over the place. Here in Hawaii, though, tropical milkweed's incredible ability to propagate itself by seed could become an issue, and since these islands already struggle with invasive species, we're going a different route. . Swamp milkweed requires a wetter environment than other milkweeds, so it won't be able to spread too far from our wet location up mauka. Combined with the giant milkweed we're growing, too, we should start seeing an adult #monarchbutterfly here and there very, very soon. Already we've been seeing infinitely more bees and butterflies around the property as the garden takes shape, so yay for bringing balance back to ecosystems! ^.^ . If you've got some impressive #gardenry going on right now, feel free to use #victorygl in your posts! I'm happy to help with any questions you might have regarding #sustainableliving , #gardening , #permaculture , or #horticulture , so don't hesitate to tag me and ask (or show off)! Isn’t he darling?! My youngest son (though my middle child) is just the most squishable! Those dimples!! 🌟🌟 For years, he has said he wants to be a chef even own his own restaurant when he’s grown. This photo is from last summer when he participated in a week long cooking camp at @cafeyoucc He had such a fun time and plans to go back this summer! 🌟🌟 The one thing I love about being a Mom is having the ability to give my kids experiences to enhance their interests. 🌟🌟 What do your kids want to be when they grow up? Or if you don’t have kids, what did you dream of becoming?
