FIGHT FOOD WASTE. 👊🚌 I am so glad I went to see ‘FOOD FIGHTER’ at the @transitionsfilmfestival. It officially premieres on June 3rd so please go see it! This film features many FEMALE CHANGEMAKERS but focuses on one in particular - Ronnie Kahn, the founder/CEO of @ozharvest, on her “crusade to save perfectly edible food.” This story is fast-paced, inspirational, and honest. It has absolutely reaffirmed my passion for social and environmental advocacy. My drive to turn my beliefs into ACTION. My desire to make the most out of my time on earth. It sounds dramatic and philosophical but, really, it’s the damn truth. After the film, Ronnie and director Dan Goldberg sat down for a live Q&A... she was just as captivating, determined, and eloquent as she was on screen. ✨ PSA: This film is part of a much larger impact campaign - please visit FIGHTFOODWASTE.ORG if you care about reducing food waste.
Chemistry? Jewelry? Both? I started cleaning up some of the clutter in preparation for some moves soon to come and had a mini #walk through "memory lane" through the #jewelry stash. Anyone know this item? Hint: It's involved in #mass spectrometry. ⠀⠀ ⠀ It soon became a necklace after realizing it wasn't functional due to a manufacturing #error. You can imagine what a relief that was for me as a an #undergraduate and #baby of the #lab at the time in wondering/worrying if I had total messed up a very valuable piece of #equipment. A nice reminder that sometimes we can do everything we can to make something #work, but it the end it may be something totally #beyond us and that's okay too. I was even more relieved (and excited) that my experiments started working soon after the replacement arrived. Check out the piece behind it. It's from #pakistan (the motherland of my father's side) and made out of #camel bone. Talk about #sustainability! Sharing space with really wonderful hand-blown #glass pendants and #indigenous art pieces from close friends too. #rose#troubleshoot#hplc#chemistry#science#flower#methanol#chemical#dilute#jewel#nostalgia#tgif#lahori#indopak#experiment
Conscious Business shout out to @ikeausa!! 🚨🎉 To be honest, we were surprised and totally blown away to see the depth of what this major furniture and consumption outlet is doing to work towards sustainability for our planet. For years, the company has been researching and investing in solar and wind energy for both their stores and distribution centers, with over $2 billion spent on renewables. They also understand the importance of integrity through all levels of their supply chain, and spend time and money with their over 1200 suppliers to move them towards renewables the reduce their carbon emissions as well. On a product level, Ikea has been rolling out more and more products that are both energy efficient for the consumers as well as made of sustainable and recyclable materials [like rugs made from left over bed linen materials, storage boxes made from reused bottles and spray bottles made from covers of other IKEA products.] While Ikea certainly produces a large amount of materials for consumption, they are doing their best to work towards utilizing and repurposing their own waste as often as possible. They are also on the cutting edge of utilizing new materials that are better for the environment and avoiding materials that we now know to be toxic to our Earth such as oil-based plastic. On a philanthropic level, Ikea has the IKEA Foundation, which “aims to improve opportunities for children and youth in some of the world’s poorest communities by focusing on four fundamental areas of a child’s life: a place to call home; a healthy start in life; a quality education; and a sustainable family income.” Ikea does work with Handicap International to help cultivate a safe and uplifting space for children with disabilities worldwide to be nurtured well and develop into their greatest selves — specifically through building playgrounds that allow these children to use their imagination and experience connection, two vital pieces of healthy
TIP #4: EXPLORE THROUGH YOUR HOBBIES // A great way to weave #zerowaste changes into your every day life is through your hobbies. Take something you're already passionate and knowledgeable about and use that to explore waste reduction. One of my passions is cooking, so I've loved following @zerowastechef and trying lots of her recipes. I also love crafts, so have played around with thing like dish clothes and bread bags, as well as looked into fabrics and notions that can be composted or recycled. Here's some other examples that might get you thinking: - Look at the art supplies you buy and how you dispose of the packaging; are there better options? - Think about what snacks and drinks you bring with you when you go hiking or play sport and how much packaging they have; could some be made or bought in bulk quantities? - Will your local nursery take back your plastic seedling pots so they're not sitting in your yard degrading? - Can leftover project materials (scrap wood, felt, etc) be used for other things? I'd love to hear your thoughts and how you've made your hobbies more ecofriendly.
Client @lk.elliott is absolutely killing the game. She's gone from getting hypnotherapy for sugar addiction, and attempting to eat an entirely "clean" diet(only to end up "falling off the wagon" as one would expect), to being able to incorporate any food she likes into her daily intake, and being a full intuitive eater. She had thrown a band-aid on a wound that needed stitches, so we ripped it off and sewed it up properly. (PS that is an analogy for covering up the issue of sugar addiction instead of figuring out why the issue was there to begin with, and fixing it. She didn't actually hire me to stitch up an open wound. I'm not a medical doctor, duh🤓) Becoming a full intuitive eater is not ideal for everybody, but it's certainly optimal for her. It feels so dang good, to set another client free.🕊🙏❤️ (Swipe right to see the donut pic. 🍩) #repost @lk.elliott ・・・ This donut pic is about so much more than a donut. It represents: 🍩A transformation. 🍩A rebellion. 🍩A liberation. 🍩A powerful moment in my life. It marks a moment I never thought I'd ever get to. A moment where I celebrate my new and improved relationship with FOOD. Long gone are the days of binge eating, stressing about food, or fearing my food drug of choice 👉 sugar. Today, I am in control of my mind. I accept my body. I enjoy a variety of foods. I-do-not-stress-about-treats. And I thank God for @brainsforbrawn who helped me get here. Do yourself a favour👉follow him. Join his movement of empowered women who are not victims of societal BS and disordered eating. We like deadifts and donuts. We have total freedom. We are just as healthy mentally as we are physically. We are #teambrainsforbrawn. 💪 I just got home from 9 days of enjoying all that LA had to offer, and my abs are still rocking. But much more importantly, I experienced ZERO stress, guilt, or concern about eating or my bf%. From the extreme of going for hypnotherapy for sugar addiction to openly,
