The Invitation by Oriah 🙂  It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing. It doesn’t interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive.  It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon. I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by life’s betrayals or have become shrivelled and closed from fear of further pain. I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it, or fade it, or fix it.  I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own; if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, be realistic, remember the limitations of being human. It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me is true. I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself. If you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul. If you can be faithless and therefore trustworthy.  I want to know if you can see Beauty even when it is not pretty every day. And if you can source your own life from its presence. I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand at the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, ‘Yes.’ It doesn’t interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up after the night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone and do what needs to be done to feed the children. It doesn’t interest me who you know or how you came to be here. I want to know if you will stand in the centre of the fire with me and not shrink back.  It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom you have studied. I want to know what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away. I

I can’t say enough about how powerful it is to incorporate meditation into your daily routing. Personally, it has helped me overcome intense anxiety.. it also reduces stress levels, helps you sleep better, builds self awareness, helps productivity and focus, and aids in tuning in to higher frequencies. 🌱 Meditation is a very simple practice that people over complicate. Start small- even two minutes a day is beneficial! Before you start your day, sit in a quiet place away from distractions. Focus on your breathing. When your mind wanders, go back to your breath. Collectively, we have allowed ourselves to become conditioned to believe that more effort invariably yields so-called "greater" results. This is evident by virtue of the fact that ambition, hard work and progress are not only fundamental pillars of our modern society, but are extolled to be greater virtue than happiness, peace and love. However, nothing should  be done, or done in such a way, that it compromises our own love, peace or happiness. When we push too much or too hard, or too soon...we not only run the risk of putting ourselves in harm's way, but we usually end up derailing ourselves from the very path we are moving along by not allowing life to unfold naturally. Anything that we do in an exhaustive or hastily manner, we are doing from a place of fear. Anything done from a place of fear will always be ultimately limited from achieving full expression. We all seem to be running to eventually stand still, but what if we didn't need to be running in the first place? It's incredible how so many of the principles that underly the way we lives our lives have significant contrarian evidence as to their efficacy, yet we continue to pound away because that's what we've been taught and that's what we see all around us. Life is not just metaphorically, but realistically, a dance and a dance that involves two partners...you and the universe, or world at large. Nothing that we do, is done entirely alone and if we can integrate this perspective, we'll soon realize that life doesn't need to be overwhelmingly difficult or require burning ourselves out. In fact, the whole experience should be much more playful...a little bit of conscious effort balanced by a cultivating  space and stillness for life to present and manifest itself. For months I’ve been fearful of my mat. For the truths my practice would reveal. I’ve been a fool so fearful of that reality.  This pestering sensation throughout my body when I think of the work I’ll be faced with once I get moving. Fear of what I’ve ignored. The thoughts & ideals I’ve stowed away for another time. A time I’ve convinced myself that is just “not right now”... I know what I’m supposed to do but I can’t talk my body into any of it... This pain has proven to only bury me deeper in myself. Isolation so cold and bleak that my bones ache. I have always struggled with internal anxieties and have often chosen the path of “lets ignore this until it blows up in my face”. Not today. Today I woke up feeling 29 in the best yogic shape of my life. My heart so joyous as though my dreams were hypnotic. I have overcome so many obstacles this past year & some change. Obstacles many of my friends have admitted were their biggest fears in life. I’ve stared into sorrow and heartache and collided with personal disappointment head on. Today my mind so clear, so ready, so willing. Motivation has never come naturally for me. For me I had to  hurt, to gripe and fight my way to mental stability. When people ask my why I chose yoga and this lifestyle, this will always be my response. Yoga takes reality and forces you to sit with it. Asana offers a perspective unlike any other, in that the bad will always emerge first and the good is a sensation that only comes after the pain. Today I hope you get through the day with a sense of motivation. With a passion so fierce you breathe life into it. I hope we can all recognize that its ok to hurt, that its ok to fall flat on your face with embarrassment. We are stronger for these emotions, and these feelings. Have the best day. You are enough, you are worthy, and you make a difference despite how small and helpless you may feel. I love you and All is well!! The light in me, honors that beaming bright light in

O P E N :: an amazing post from our friend @clean.swaps  Let's talk about hope in the face of adversity. ⠀ ⠀ Let's talk about *talking* to professionals- because this is still highly stigmatized, is proven to benefit symptoms of mental illness, + because sometimes those who love us may truly not know what to say. ⠀ ⠀ Let's talk about appreciating that the brain doesn't operate independently of the body; that physical health impacts mental health (& vice versa), and that our nervous system is not stagnant.⠀ ⠀ Let's talk about epigenetics- environmental factors that influence the expression of genes. These are factors that are within our control (as opposed to genes, which are not), such as toxins, stress {and our perception of it}, physical trauma, injury, nutritional status, exercise, social connection, etc. ⠀ ⠀ Let's talk about reframing the course of these diseases- as curable, flexible conditions, instead of chronic life sentences. ⠀ ⠀ Let's talk about finding root causes to low serotonin+dopamine levels, instead of just treating those symptoms w/o further investigation (ie hormone imbalances, methylation issues, undiagnosed food sensitivities, heavy metal toxicity, deficiency in nutritional precursors). ⠀ ⠀ Let's talk about those 10-30% of ppl who don't find reprieve in traditional medications- there is hope for them too. In the form of CBT, neuroplasticity training, mindfulness, meditation, EMDR, NLP, and even ketamine according to tonight's news! (This is in a clinical setting- don't just go and try ketamine lol). ⠀ ⠀ Let's talk about not minimizing the very real physiological +psychological underpinnings of mental illness that make it inherently irrational, &that being aware of one's depression/anxiety doesn't equate to having automatic control over it. ⠀
