Beautiful inspiration of reusing plastic yarn and it giving it a long live. Discovered in a wonderful oasis with so inspiring and enthusiastic people... From regular floodings due to waste they transformed their village in Jakarta into a community-driven circular business! #smallthingsinlife#upcycle#reuse #zerowastecities. Photo by mappingplastics.

I used to run to the water in an excited anticipation of feeling that sense of freedom one can get from inhaling damp life-affirming sea air, blown thousands of miles over an endless mass of water. I used to savour the moments of looking out to sea, because it served as a reminder of how impertinent human beings were, and how powerful nature is. I have always feared the ocean, largely because of a deep respect for its mystery and its 'wild' unpredictability. But it is becoming glaringly obvious that the water is no longer the abyss that us terrestrial beings should fear. Instead, it is us humans who are the threat, no longer capable of respecting that which is sacred. As our oceans are becoming the host of the waste produced by human's dangerous sense of superiority bred by capitalism and sheer disregard for ecological systems, the sandy shore wastelands are a reminder of the many addictions humans have to end. Our lifestyles are killing all that was beautiful. But out of sight, out of mind, right? "There are no unsacred places, only sacred places and desecrated places." - Wendell Berry #plasticpollution#zeroplastic#beachclean#wearenature
As far as we know, plastic bags don't truly biodegrade in the environment or the landfill. They break down into smaller and smaller bits of unrecoverable plastic pieces when exposed to UV light that harm wildlife and pollute our food supply. Estimations for photodegradation vary, from 500 to even 1000 years - we don't even know how long bags will be around because we've only been manufacturing since the 1950s.
