Crabs’ position spotlight: Quenton Nelson G Notre Dame. Quenton Nelson is my number one guard and best overall player in this year’s class. A lot of people think I am crazy for having Q as my best player over Saquon. My reasoning is that he has the most consistent film. I have never seen him have a bad game. Even when Notre Dame was getting crushed by Miami, Q was still pancaking people. I love everything about Q. His physicality, toughness, technique, and nasty mentality scream off the tape. To begin, the guy has text book blocking technique. His hand placement is some of the best I have ever seen. He consistently gets his hands inside, and wins at the point of attack. He always creates separation between him and the defender by extending his arms and benching pressing who is ever across from him. Q has amazing recovery as well. He stays so balanced that even when he loses the hand battle, he can still anchor his lower body and stone wall his opponent. The dude plays with ruthless aggression. It is very easy tell that he enjoys imposing his will on people. He is also excellent at picking up blitzes and stunts (see first clip). Q isn’t the most athletic guy on the field, but his awareness and instincts account his lack of mobility. I had such a hard time picking just 10 clips to represent Mr. Nelson. I originally had 19 from watching 4 games. If I had to bet all my money on a player in this class, Q is my guy. To me, he is a “can’t miss prospect.” BTW: He is the left guard #56.
