Let's learn about masonry! The Terrace Plaza Hotel is only the second known structure to use thin faced brick in stacked bond on its facade. What does that mean? If you look at most brick buildings, you'll notice that rarely do two bricks sit directly on top of one another. This creates a "bond" between each brick that allows the whole wall to bear a load (most commonly, you'll see "running" bonds). A "stack bond" consists of bricks that are aligned with the brick below it. While visually unique, this method creates a brick wall that cannot bear a load and is therefore purely aesthetic. Just one more aspect of #theterraceplazahotel that made it unique! . . . #masonry#facade#cincinnati
I swear this building looks the same from every side (which is how we got lost a few times 😉)! Hanging out in the city center is Philadelphia City Hall. This place is the tallest masonry structure in the world. I never would have guessed that. I loved seeing it.
"In keeping with the Pythagorean theorem, the right triangle also represents the principle of generating a resultant (the hypotenuse) from complementary terms (the legs). It is a geometric expression of the Hegelian dialectic of thesis, antithesis, and synthesis. Thus esotericists have repeatedly attributed the legs of the right triangle to Isis (base) and Osiris (perpendicular), and the hypotenuse to Horus. The right triangle has also been used as an illustration of how matter and spirit (the legs) combine in human life (the hypotenuse)."
