Introducing Ano, a curly koa wood plate that I hand turned on my lathe. While I typically use locally sourced wood, this piece came from a woodturner who was retiring his lathe and the stock of wood that he'd collected over the years. Koa trees are found in Hawaii and the wood is prized for its beauty. The way the wood shimmers in the light makes it even more breathtaking in person.
Hi, I’m Casey Parlette and I work out of Laguna Beach, CA. I do wood, metal and stone sculpture. Everything I make is by hand through a process of carving, blacksmithing and metal fabrication. Each piece is a one of a kind work of art. I started sculpting at a young age, I did my first wood carving when I was 7. I have never taken a formal sculpture class. I was lucky to have learned techniques from a number of different artists and craftsmen over the years. The rest was figured out through trial and error and exploration. I love the natural world and my work reflects that.
Using my @lagunatools 14BX bandsaw to rough cut the large round overs on part of the dining table base. Slow and steady, let the blade do the cutting! #outofthewoods Thanks to @jeff_atlasmachinery and @atlasmachinery for the blade reccomendation.
