Just did the math, not only did our #iwd event pay all artists (unless fee donated), BUT it also raised $3000 for @girlsrockmelb! 🌶🌶🌶 I can't thank everyone involved enough for helping it come to life and supporting me when event planning turned me silly. Thanks to Melb's best @rocksteadyrecords and @levis_anz for their generous door prizes 💖 @patricecapogreco - you're an angel, thank you for all your excitement and passion getting it all together. @grettalouise your enthusiasm was in part why it all started! Thank you for being there from the very start. And most importantly, thank you @sophie_estelle - I quite frankly couldn't have done it without you and your sea of calm ;) you're a queen and I love it. Although women are a big part of our projects, we believe that men and children must be included in the conversation and many of them actually participate in a lot of our programs. They in fact also receive training and education with a huge emphasis on women's rights! #inclusionmatters Learn more at www.asiainitiatives.org

Regrann from @rawrealreach - “I’ve had it all. I mean, it’s hard because — and I always mention these women, they’re amazing women, and I admire them, I really do — but it’s unfortunate that when you talk about Latinos, you talk about #jenniferlopez, #shakira, #sofiavergara, #thalia. You talk about these women that look a certain type of way but you never mention women that look like myself. And there isn’t a Latin country where you don’t have Afro-Latinos. #colombia, #venezuela, #chile, #honduras, it doesn’t matter where you go, there’s black people. But why aren’t we portrayed in the magazines? Why aren’t we in movies? Why aren’t we in novelas or soap operas? What’s wrong with me? Why can’t I represent what a Latina woman should look like? That’s really what bothers me. I feel that it’s sad for the new generation coming up because they don’t have anyone to admire within their own community that’s doing well. That they can be like: One day I want to be like her. There’s nothing, literally, they just act make it seem like we don’t exist.” . . . “My advice: Be proud of who you are. Be proud of the skin you’re in. You’re one in a million. There’s no other you, and you got to embrace that shit and rock out. Don’t try to fit in. Don’t try to mimic what you see in the magazines, ‘cause all of that is photoshopped anyway. Everything you see from mainstream media is bologna. It’s conditioned us to believe all of us women should look a certain way – our bodies, our hair. It’s bologna. Stop admiring how stars appear on the covers; direct your attention to who they are as people. And most of all, if you want something, go get it. You only have one life. The only thing we’re guaranteed is death.” — #amaralanegra @amaralanegraaln • • •
It’s #factsfriday! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ According to the 2016 Inter-Parliamentary Union Report, Rwanda leads all nations in share of women in politics with 64% of their lower house held by women. In comparison, only 19% of the U.S. House is held by women. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We had the amazing opportunity to meet one of them, Clare Akamanzi, during our mission trip last year. Clare is the CEO of the Rwandan Development Board, which coordinates and promotes national economic development. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We’re amazed by and excited for these divine relationships that God continues to provide for our organization. We pray that Lita’s testimony on Sunday helps inspire women everywhere to believe in themselves, because God will use them in powerful ways just the way they are. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So don’t forget to come join us @saddlebackchurch this Sunday at 3:30PM PST! Who’s going to be there? 🙋🏻♂️ Let us know in the comments below!
