It's been over a month since I moved to Sofia and I couldn't be happier. When asked why I love this city it's hard to put my finger on it. I love the quick access to nature - I was on top of Vitosha breathing fresh mountain air within a 20 minute car ride from my apartment. I find the locals here extremely friendly. The city is pretty walkable and the public transit is WAY more reliable than NYC. It's a great spot for remote workers, with lightning fast internet and one of the lowest costs of living in Europe. I can get to at least 10 different countries spending less than $30 roundtrip. Turkey, Greece, Macedonia, and Serbia -- all places I love -- are a quick border hop away. Sofia's not perfect (nowhere is). The taxi drivers are notorious assholes, and some of the buildings and roads are in need of some serious TLC. Corruption inhibits progress in a way that as a foreigner I don't fully understand. But I weigh all the good against the bad, and living in Sofia is worth it. I have a new project that I'm launching with @historyfangirl April 1st - so watch this space!
