I’ll never forget driving on 75 and listening to a compilation of songs one of the mixers at the station asked me to listen too. One caught my attention and I kept playing it over and over. I must of played it 50 times. It was a track called “I Did You Wrong” by Mims. I finally connected with his manager @erikanswerman who was very excited. So when “This Is Why I’m Hot” came along I didn’t even blink to be the first to play and believe in it never looking back. Even in the credits of the album says it all. Just read an article about “trust your gut”. Which made me think of this. I’ve been beginning each morning with @robynyoukilis Power Parfait. I bought her new book “Thin from Within” a few weeks back and have been so impressed with her knowledge. Quite frankly, I am exhausted from trying to find the “perfect diet.” The reality is there isn’t one. What’s perfect is learning to listen to your gut, your intuition about what your body truly needs. I’m relating to food in a completely different way. I know baths are super in right now for self care, but this impatient girl ain’t got no time for that 🛁 And yet, I’m forcing myself to do it anyway🛁 . Why you ask? Because this a trying and emotional rollercoaster season for me. A lot of really high highs and even more lower lows. This kind of stress normally wreaks havoc on my gut, but I have been hyper aware of how I take care of myself mentally and physically. This includes taking time every day to do something active that I enjoy, setting aside time to be with hubby and puppy, and forcing myself to take a bath like this to allow my body to relax and let gooooo. When I’m choosing which photos to keep from a shoot, I rely a lot on my gut response as I flip through the images. Yes, no, no, yes, no...I’m quickly flagging the photos I want to keep and moving past the others. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And you know how I know I reallllly have a keeper? When I stop in my tracks and get an actual punch in the gut feeling of excitement when I see the image for the first time - which is exactly what happened with this photo from Suzanne + Gordon’s engagement shoot. The look on her face, y’all!! Just SO good! ❤️
Being yourself is the first step into making you happy. You can’t be happy by trying to be someone just simply because you’re not them and you’re not in their minds. Think of it like this we all been there when we either saw someone on tv or just at work or school getting a lot of good attention from people around them so one day we tried to mimic their mannerisms, how they dress, and how they talk to people. And throughout that whole day you have this weird feeling of uncertainty and you just feel like a follower. That’s because your brain is trying to tell you this is not you and this is not what’s going to make you happy because you got to put in effort and energy into trying to be someone who doesn’t even have the same interest as you. Everyone was born with a different personality. The reason we question it so much is because when we stepped into society like the first time we ever stepped into a school, we were experiencing criticism and caring what other people thought about us that our bodies became less flexible as we were before we stepped in a school because of nerves and society telling us what’s right or what’s weird. If you compare our bodies’ flexibility to a toddler and a cat you’ll see how much criticism you went through your whole life compared to their lives. Our bodies shouldn’t be stiff at all. That’s also another way for people to be able to think they could control you because they know from the stiffness of your body that you are able to be controlled. It’s like an obvious giveaway. We need to work on just being ourselves because that’s the only way we could be happy FROM OUR OWN INTERESTS. Always be a leader never a follower!
Evolution and growth are a necessity for me right now. Maybe even an obsession. I’ve chosen to take a lot of time for self reflection lately. So I’m alone most of the time. Which was a little weird for me at first because I am such a social person. However, intuitively I knew I needed it to prep for what is coming. Never feel like you need to explain or apologize for what you’ve decided to do with your life. If it feels “right” to you, then do it. D I G E S T I O N F R I E N D L Y . . Is your SMOOTHIE digestion friendly? . Even though smoothies are a GREAT go-to for a quick, nutritious breakfast or snack, they can sometimes be a bit hard on your digestive system. . 'How is that possible'? you might ask, since it's all mushy and soft. . BUT most smoothies are loaded with fruit and ice, which are not always the easiest for our bodies to digest. . Fruit on their own digest relatively quickly, but mixed with other foods it takes a bit longer. I'll do a post on food combining to optimise digestion soon. . What's the concern with ice? . According to @robynyoukilis, health coach and author of 'Go with your Gut', "our bodies and our bellies are warm, and they really love warm foods, especially first thing in the morning... think of the digestive system like a fireplace – you want to keep that fire (your metabolism!) burning steady and strong throughout the day. When you drink an icy cold smoothie first thing in the morning, you run the risk of putting out that fire." . That being said, there are a few ways you can upgrade ANY smoothie to make it more digestion friendly. Here are some tips from @robynyoukilis: . 1. ADD STEAMED VEG instead of fruit. Cauliflower, zucchini and sweet potato work well and you won't taste them. In fact, they make it rich and creamy. If you freeze your steamed veg before using, you also don't need to add extra ice. And the frozen veg will warm up a bit in blender. Much better for your system than ice. . 2. ADD FRESH GINGER. It raises the thermogenic properties of your body and helps you digestive 'fire' to stay active. It literally warms you from the inside out. . 3. CHEW IT. Instead of downing your smoothie, create a smoothie bowl and eat it with a spoon. The saliva in your mouth contains enzymes, which need a moment with your food. Giving your smoothie a moment in the mouth with these enzymes can help your body digest it better. . I've also found that running your blender longer will
You ever have those moments where you’re like oh yeah I’m totally breaking the rules over here. It feels good to go against the “right way” or “perfect solution” in motherhood. Let’s face it there is no such thing!!Like last week I decided I wasn’t going to do the laundry. I just kept throwing it the laundry room and shutting the door... it felt so good! Until Thursday came and none of my girls had clean underwear 🤣🤣🤣 MOMing is so hard and sometimes I want to just break the damn rules and just do what works best for me and my family! It’s when I stay true to my heart and my gut feeling that I always feel good. It’s when I follow the lead of what everyone else is doing just because well everyone is doing it that makes me feel not so good. I have learned how to not only trust my gut but listen to it too!!
