I graduated a year early from my undergrad program at the University of Minnesota, moved back home to the big city of Chicago, and started my first big-girl job. My college friends were still in Minneapolis, and my childhood, hometown friends were still away at their respective schools finishing out their degrees. I was more than happy to start adulting. What I didn’t expect were the parts that stung. The ones that were bittersweet. • I’d see the Snapchats of themed parties or friends at the bar’s trivia night. I’d get the “you’d NEVER guess who I ran into last night” phone calls. I’d like the photos and posts about sorority events, post-graduation plans and internships. I scroll through social media while at home — my parents’ home — with my cat and a glass of wine. 🐱🍷 • I couldn’t get it out of my head. Everywhere I went, I felt like my age is what people saw in me before anything else. • This taught me one thing. Age is but a number. 🙇🏼♀️ • Yes, a total cliché that makes me cringe as I write it, but I simply can’t phrase it any other way. • For anyone else out there feeling like their voice can’t be heard because they’re too young to understand, I’m with you. This is for you. ✊🏼 • • • More on my @medium.
