#repost @leonardodicapriofdn ・・・ #repost @natgeo Photo by @FransLanting On April 22 we celebrate Earth Day—a moment to recognize what the planet does for us, and what we can do in return. I’m offering this image of a rainforest in Borneo at dawn as a confirmation of its importance for global life cycles. Its forests exhale the oxygen and water that we depend on every day. Let’s make every day Earth Day. After a year of ups and downs for our planet and its wildlife, it’s time for us to come together and push for real change in 2018. Talk to your friends about conservation, reduce waste at home, plant a tree or support ecotourism attractions. Change is possible if we all push for it together! #earthday Photo: @shannon__wild #earthday2018 #environment #conservation #wildlife #elephant #africa #eastafrica #extinctioncrisis #letlionslive #poachingstealsfromusall #change #onestepatatime #2018

The #iberianlynx (aka #spanish tiger)was declared the most #endangered #wildcat in the world in 2002. Today there are more than 400 individuals in the wild. #thanks to all the individuals, Organizations and government agencies who continue to ensure that this amazing animal does not become a poster child for the #extinctioncrisis 📷@marinacano

Conservation photography gives a voice to the planet and its creatures. This is Teddy, a young adult loggerhead sea turtle that was found sick inside the St. Lucie Power Plant intake canal, where he was rescued by biologists with @inwaterresearch. Now, he’s in the care of humans at @loggerheadmarinelifecenter and on the road to recovery. • #seaturtle #extinctioncrisis #conservationphotography • (All activities and related photos were conducted under Marine Turtle Permit (MTP-18-086) issued by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.)
#repost @leonardodicapriofdn ・・・ #repost @savetheelephants The escalating problem of human-elephant conflict in the Amboseli ecosystem is the leading cause of premature elephant mortality in the region - a threat that Tim the Tusker faces every day. STE and other conservation partners have made great strides towards improving rangers’ patrol strategies to better counter Tim’s crop raiding patterns. Find out more about these strategies and also the latest about Tim in the March issue of the #monthlytrumpet available on our website. Photo: @ryan.wilkie.photos
Happy Easter! Check out The Pretty+Gritty California Brush Rabbit’s Conservation Story! #endextinction #repost @natgeo with @get_repost ・・・ Video by @joelsartore | Brush rabbits live in brushy habitat for a very good reason-- many other creatures like to eat them. In California alone, predators of adult and young brush rabbits include snakes, barn owls, great-horned owls, red-tailed hawks, Cooper’s hawks, coyotes, gray foxes, mink, weasels, and bobcats. Once common in California’s Central Valley, the riparian brush rabbit is now endangered. Their plight isn’t that surprising considering the Central Valley is one of the most productive agricultural areas in the world, providing more than half of the fruits, vegetables, and nuts grown in the U.S. Twenty years ago, concerns about the subspecies’ future were so great, that a cooperative recovery effort was initiated. This effort was centered on the San Joaquin River National Wildlife Refuge (NWR), where this adult male was photographed before he was released back into the wild. The charismatic and shy nature of the rabbit has helped garner millions of dollars to support the conservation program, which included captive breeding and reintroduction. Another major element was the largest contiguous riparian woodland restoration program in California, the design of which was guided in part by using the brush rabbit as an umbrella species. Over a 12-year period ending in 2013, about 1,500 captive-bred rabbits were released on NWR lands. As a result of these measures, the refuge now hosts the largest and most robust population of riparian brush rabbits. And a massive congrats tonight to our Producer @emmanuel_castis for winning the SAFTA for Best Supporting Actor – TV Drama. Emmanuel will also be playing the role of Head APU Ranger in #sidesofahorn
#repost @leonardodicaprio ・・・ #regram #rg @natgeo: Photo by @amivitale With a heavy heart, I share this news and hope that Sudan's legacy will awaken us to protect this magnificent and fragile planet. Yesterday, Joseph Wachira, 26 comforted Sudan, the last living male Northern White Rhino left on this planet moments before he passed away. Sudan lived a long, healthy life at the conservancy after he was brought to Kenya from @safari_park_dvur_kralov in the #czechrepublic in 2009. He died surrounded by people who loved him at @olpejeta after suffering from age-related complications that led to degenerative changes in muscles and bones combined with extensive skin wounds. Sudan has been an inspirational figure for many across the world. Thousands have trooped to Ol Pejeta to see him and he has helped raise awareness for rhino conservation. The two female northern white rhinos left on the planet are his direct descendants. Research into new Assisted Reproductive Techniques for large mammals is underway due to him. The impact that this special animal has had on conservation is simply incredible. And there is still hope in the future that the subspecies might be restored through IVF. In 2009, I had the privilege of following this gentle hulking creature on his journey from the snowy Dour Krylov zoo in the Czech Republic to the warm plains of Kenya, when he was transported with three of his fellow Northern White Rhinos in a last ditch effort to save the subspecies. It was believed that the air, water, and food, not to mention room to roam, might stimulate them to breed—and the offspring would then be used to repopulate Africa. At the time, there were 8 Northern white rhinos alive, all in zoos. Today, we are witnessing the extinction of a species that had survived for millions of years but could not survive mankind. Follow @olpejeta and @amivitale to learn more about how we can protect these magnificent creatures.
Congrats to our Production Designer Vivienne Mahlokofor on her SAFTA win tonight! Golden Horn award for Best Achievement in Art / Production Design - TV Drama. We’re excited to start work with you next week, Vivienne! #saftas12 @saftassa
Feeling incredibly sad at yesterday's news :( A piece of everyone dies with you. Our world is in pieces #sudan #gentlegiant #extinctioncrisis

So so sad. #extinction #extinctioncrisis #saveourwildlife I wish all poachers would drop dead!!! I know poaching is not the case here, but are in many other cases 😢😡
Meet Sudan who yesterday was the last living male white Rhino. He's now dead. How is this even possible? That we can force an animal into extinction that has lived on this planet for millions of years. Absolutely shocking. In just over 100 years poachers have wiped out an estimated half a million of these creatures. If this doesn't act as a warning I don't know what will. This should be a powerful reminder that we did not do enough to save this majestic species and must NEVER allow this to happen again. And must prevent this from happening to the likes of cheetah, elephants, black rhinos, giraffes.... There is an estimated 10.000 other species currently at risk of being stamped out by us. Let's hope our technology will redeem us and they manage to successfully carry out IVF on Sudan's daughter and granddaughter in one last attempt to save the species. #extinctioncrisis #sudan #whiterhino
Wow, the last male Northern White Rhino has died, what a sad world we live in 😢 Surely we’ve got the ways and means to avoid anymore of this craziness 😳 #ripsudan #ripsudantherhino #conservation #extinctioncrisis #extinctionisforever #extinctionisreal
I feel like the world needs to wake the hell up. Yesterday Sudan the last male Northern White Rhino passed. He was old I had been following his stories in different articles he was the the last chance at keeping their species alive but he was getting to old to actually mate it’s a sad time for the planet... R.I.P Sudan #extinction #extinctioncrisis
