Let us be the first to say, when you are blessed with a heavy, cultural background it is extremely challenging to decide what of your people’s food you can or cannot eat in order to be healthy. The idealized “healthy diet” in America is white rice, baked chicken and vegetables, and throughout our time as a fitness brand we’ve heard so many people say they could never be healthy because they like the food of their culture too much. This could not be farther from the truth; and after years of training, eating healthy, and STILL embracing our heritage, we have come to realize that moderation is the key to it all. _ You can still enjoy the griot, the jerk chicken, the patties... but portion sizes matter. Here are a few tips we implement day to day: 🍴Don’t overdo it! You don’t need an entire platter of rice and beans, a cup of rice and a palm sized piece of protein is enough! 🍴Leave the sauces alone! Sauces are dangerous when it comes to eating healthy, because, while very flavorful, they’re also often very greasy and high in fat. 🍴Pair your cultural food with a more simple side dish! In this picture, for example, we went with a simple side salad with fat free caesar dressing to give us a clean serving of veggies.
