4/13 When your mom has been working on a research paper about how conventional embalming/burial and cremation practices aren't sustainable... "Alkaline hydrolysis is the future." *Yes, I explained it to her. She knows that it's good for the Earth, and makes plant food and bone dust. We go to Resthaven to visit my family often, so she has had lots of questions. I wish that I was more familiar and comfortable with death before encountering it at a young age. #deathpositive #alkalinehydrolysis #biocremation #greencremation #resomation #bedhead #talktoyourkids

Nice for WHAT????!!!! 👀👀👀🙄 Likeability. Respectability. Propriety. For what though? It’s become a habit of mine to let men know when they have underestimated me. To let them know that this offense is less a reflection of my appearance and more of a reflection of their own ill-conceived notions of my youth and femininity. To let them know that their boys club mentality does NOBODY any favors. But I can’t believe I still have to do this s$&@! I HAVE TOO MUCH TO DO TO WORRY ABOUT WHAT YOU THINK OF ME. To worry if I’m being taken seriously. To worry if I’m coming off “a certain way.” Let’s let my work speak for itself. After all, it’s probably better than his, his, or his. . . . . . #deathpositive #yucatan #sustainability #bluefuneral #seaburial #burialatsea #alkalinehydrolysis #coral #coralreef #memorialreef #artificialreef #memorialreefsinternational #reefball #grief #environmentalism #climatechange #globalwarming #marinebiology #ocean #coralnursery #funeral #cremation #greenburial #nfda #iccfa #fishing #surf #biodiversity #biocremation #sustainability
Dear Insta, today I did something weird. I went with my Grandma to inquire about bio-cremation. My Grandma was widowed last year and since then has been concerned about the cost and logistics of her own passing. (Though she's currently as healthy as can be!) She has long had a fear of being buried, so insisted we have her cremated. But last week she saw an ad on Facebook about bio-cremation. It's a process that uses water and an alkaline chemical to reduce a body to ashes without flames. (Sidenote: Facebook ads for cremation and funeral homes work!?) So today we went to lunch, planned her funeral, and dropped her bio-cremation onto a credit card. We laughed the whole time. . . #biocremation (there's a hashtag for this!?) #cremation #funeralhomes #grandmaandme #grandmas #girlsbrunch #whatididtoday #dearinsta #dearinstagram #ilovemygrandma #unsplash @unsplash
A moment of bliss. 😌 So many hours of work has been put into making all of these dreams into reality. I’ve truly never done anything so meaningful and rewarding. At one point in time I really thought the only job I would ever have would be to do useless work for a greedy corporation. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Here’s to having a boss that recognizes (and celebrates!!!) my labors, and here’s to the future!!! 🥂 . . . . . #deathpositive #yucatan #sustainability #bluefuneral #seaburial #burialatsea #alkalinehydrolysis #coral #coralreef #memorialreef #artificialreef #memorialreefsinternational #reefball #grief #environmentalism #climatechange #globalwarming #marinebiology #ocean #coralnursery #funeral #cremation #greenburial #nfda #iccfa #fishing #surf #biodiversity #biocremation #sustainability
How was your pagan holiday? __ We are participating in spirit cooking and we don’t even know it. #plannedparenthood ( #hek293 ) 👀 ___ A new “#recycling” technology called “#bioCremation” liquefies the dead, then dumps their liquid remains into city sewers where solid and liquid waste are collected as “#biosludge” to be dumped on food crops. Those crops, in turn, are fed back to humans as part of the mainstream #foodsupply. ___ In a shocking true story that’s part The Matrix and part Soylent Green, a company based in Smith Falls, Ontario has devised a “bio-cremation” system that it calls an “eco-friendly alternative to flame-based cremation or casket burials,” reports Canada’s CBC News. The company is called Hilton’s Aquagreen Dispositions and touts its approach to dissolving dead bodies as “eco-friendly alkaline hydrolysis.” According to CBC News, dead bodies are liquefied with a “process that blends water with an alkali solution…” The company’s website describes the body liquefaction process as follows: __ Bio Cremation creates a highly controlled and sophisticated environment that uniquely combines water, alkali, heat and pressure. This process biochemically hydrolyzes the human body, leaving only bone fragments. During a typical Bio Cremation cycle, the body is reduced, bone  fragments are rinsed and the remaining by-product is a sterile fluid. There’s no mention of handling the #mercury and other toxic #heavymetals that would survive such a process, of course. Those metals would obviously end up in the city’s sewer system. “The company came under fire in 2016 when it was revealed the liquid byproduct is then drained into the town’s sewage system.” — ♻ from @anon4lif3 / @nathan11.11
With Easter Sunday 🐇around the corner, here are a few tips to minimize your waste: . . 💡Scrap the cellophane! Miles of mesmerizing transparent plastic wrappings will be used for Easter Baskets. But do you really need it? Absolutely not! This goes for the infamously wasteful plastic easter grass as well. Opt for paper grass or even make your own with recycled paper grocery bags! . . 💡Ditch the cheaply made plastic toys and plastic-wrapped candies. Opt for a few special items of quality instead of piling a child’s basket with toys that will likely be broken and in the garbage before Monday even hits. . . 💡Use home made plant-based dyes to decorate Easter eggs! 🍒🍇🥕🍠While preparing the dyes does take quite a bit of extra effort, it is a wonderful opportunity to teach your children about everyday foods we eat! . . . . . . #deathpositive #easter #sustainability #bluefuneral #seaburial #burialatsea #alkalinehydrolysis #coral #coralreef #memorialreef #artificialreef #memorialreefsinternational #reefball #grief #environmentalism #climatechange #globalwarming #marinebiology #ocean #coralnursery #funeral #cremation #greenburial #nfda #iccfa #fishing #surf #biodiversity #biocremation #sustainability
So many amazing things are happening and I'm so excited to move on to this next crazy chapter of my life. Leaving home will be a painful adjustment but my travels and experiences will be so worth the journey. I never thought I could or would do all that I'm doing now. I think of all the seemingly small decisions I've made that could have changed my life's course had I chosen differently. Pivotal moments of immense courage to do what needed to be done are the moments of power that give me the energy to continue every day in all aspects of life and work. It could have so easily been different. I could be dead! But I'm not and I'm here making moves about to complete my quarter of a century (!?!!!) in the Yucatán contributing to the success of something that I truly believe will benefit the world on micro and macro levels. #achievingmyfinalform2k18 . . . . . . #deathpositive #yucatan #sustainability #bluefuneral #seaburial #burialatsea #alkalinehydrolysis #coral #coralreef #memorialreef #artificialreef #memorialreefsinternational #reefball #grief #environmentalism #climatechange #globalwarming #marinebiology #ocean #coralnursery #funeral #cremation #greenburial #nfda #iccfa #fishing #surf #biodiversity #biocremation #sustainability
Every year on March 23 we commemorate the founding of the World Meteorological Organization in 1950. On this day we acknowledge the contributions that meteorologists have made to protection of public safety through weather reporting and analysis. . . This year’s theme is “weather-ready, climate-smart”, emphasizing the importance of preparing for weather events and recognizing climate change and its influence on the severity of potentially disastrous storms and floods. . . . . Did you know that Reef Balls can help protect vulnerable shorelines from flooding and erosion? Reef Ball Submerged Breakwater systems are engineered to decrease wave intensity and trap sand where it is needed to restore shoreline. As concern grows for rising seas and increasingly damaging weather events, its more important than ever to determine at-risk areas and put protections in place. Shoreline destruction results in loss of private and public property and even important ecosystems. Swipe to see pictures of beaches before and after Reef Balls have been put in place.
