Kojic Acid is the last one in our "know your acids" series. This is probably a good thing because its one that has been viewed negatively by many due to its constant misuse by skin bleaching experts. . . . However, Kojic acid is not bad at all if used correctly and in moderation. It is a chemical derived from mushrooms. Because of its ability to really penetrate the layers of your skin and stop the production of melanin (which is responsible for the darkness of your skin) , kojic acid is usually sought out as a spot-fading treatment and for hyperpigmentation & skin lightening. . . . Kojic acid is pretty safe and should be used in small doses. In fact, its advisable to use kojic acid- infused products. It can be incorporated into your routine by using serums, masks, night creams. Its definitely safer than hydroquinone and if used properly can even out skin tone, fade discoloration rather than completely lighten your skin.
