I'm starting fresh with a new account. (Is anyone surprised? *crickets*) Find me at @whirlwindspirit. I'm going to post ALL THE THINGS there so if a mix of constant poetry/art/tarot/self-exploration/daily moments isn't your jam, I understand. ✌🏼️
I’ve been trying to figure out how I want to use this account. In the meantime, curating’s always a good time, so swipe through the slideshow for some of my recent faves across Insta-land. ▫️ 1. My friend Caroline’s beautiful artwork. I only recently discovered she was also an artist as well as a wordsmith. This one is titled “Seeds of Reclamation”. Reclaim was my word of the year in 2017 and I’m just now starting to see the growth of those seeds I planted, in bloom like the feeling of this painting. 🌱 | @carolinemiskenack_artist ▫️ 2. This art journal page by the lovely Jaimee of @_havenwood. Constantly inspired by her mixed media style. ☀️ ▫️ 3. A new discovery - lovely vibes from @thewildflowergathering 🌷 ▫️ 4. Always having water feels. And @melissinem is always capturing the most magical minimal views. ▫️ 5. I will never not adore my best friend @starseedjournal’s art. She and I have come a long way in honoring our creativity together. It’s forever a joy to experience her pieces.
I think I’ve been really spoiled by the creative community here on Instagram. I haven’t felt like posting anything that’s outside of my writing and art projects right now. Because I love to create and I love interacting with other people who love to create and the photos of my everyday feel boring in comparison. But then I remember that my everyday /is/ my creativity. The clothes I choose and the dishes I wash and the walks I take every afternoon to pick up my girl from school are not separate from when I sit down in the mornings to my coffee and cards, my notebooks, and my collage materials. I may get blissfully lost in purpose with the morning things, and I may find myself a bit less so when I’m in the midst of all the day-to-day, but all of it matters because all of it connects, and the goal, of course, is to live a connected life, because a connected life is an artful life, and that makes us creative types real happy. #magicinthemundane
My current obsession: magnetic collage. I was torn today about where to post this. It’s art, tarot, and poetry-related all at the same time. Will someone remind me why I have three separate accounts? 😏
So here’s what my creative process looks like: - inspiration - abstraction - refinement - expression I've noticed that if I skip any one of these four steps, whatever I've created doesn't feel "finished". Lately I've worked on a lot of projects to the point of completion, but as of now they're sitting in drafts folders (SO MANY DRAFTS FOLDERS) waiting to be shared. When too many finished projects get backed up I start to feel overwhelmed, like I'm neglecting some important need, and I am. I'm all for process over result, but for me there's an additional process just in the act of sharing itself. I've always had a need to self-express, but sending the expression outward cements the sense of fulfillment. For some, creativity is a private outlet. For me it has always been more. It's always needed to go somewhere, to travel out beyond myself and into others' spaces of connection and belonging and vulnerability. What does your creative process look like? If you had to narrow it down to three or four steps, what are the essentials for you?
It’s #tinyplaylisttuesday... on a Thursday! Actually I decided to make the playlists a little less tiny, and available on my Stories! If you want a daily song rec, watch the Tiny Playlist highlight on my profile. Every Tuesday I’ll post the link to a Spotify playlist where you can hear all the songs of the past week together. Yay! Music! 💚
Scenes from the workspace. Scribbled wisdom on the top courtesy of my heart friend @starseedjournal who feeds the need for a soul-deep creativity + exploration partner on the d a i l y . 23: #gentlejanuary2018 | I surrender
Feeling an intense pull to make more art, more collages, more visual expressions again. To play and experiment. I have SOMANYIDEAS and none of them are really very clear yet but with patience and an ear always to the heart, I’m sure something will begin to make sense. It always does eventually. 17: #fmspad | thoughtful • #gentlejanuary2018 | I enjoy
I took about five different pictures of trees against walls today and I like every single one of them but this one wins because I could look at the accidental asymmetry and not writhe in agony. 🙃 #recoveringperfectionist 16: #fmspad | wall • #gentlejanuary2018 | trees
New daylight seeping through shutters. I always feel full of projects & possibility when I first wake up. As Sheriff Hopper from Stranger Things would say, mornings are for coffee and contemplation. 15: #fmspad | new • #gentlejanuary2018 | I feel
I will be here, in this moment, in this life, on this planet, drinking in all the wonder with every cell of my being. I will meet what arises. I will love what arises. I will learn from what arises. I will listen. I will speak. I will share. I will protect. I will show up. I will explore. I will release. I will receive. I will contract. I will expand. I will live.
What a happy coincidence that the photo prompts for today are ‘water’ and ‘happy place’, given that for me they are one and the same. 🌊 This is from last August, which was the last time I went to the beach, which was much too long ago. New year resolution (as of right now): More beach trips. 🏖 #oceanchildforever
A bean and cheese is so much more than a little bit of food It is also a great big sea of potential billowing out across the country yes i spontaneously was fun In which my predictive text writes a caption for me. Also, I love this bean. (She is indeed a great big sea of potential AND spontaneously fun.) #thenovachronicles
