We made it to the top of the Nyiragongo Volcano in the Democratic Republic of Congo! It was a 6 hour trek, 8 kilometers, and 5000 feet in elevation gain but so worth it to see the world’s biggest lava lake and spend the night just beside it. 🔥#ourradicalsabbatical
So lit. This is the world’s largest lava lake. It’s roughly 2,500ft. across. It was comprehensively mesmerizing to look at. If you feel like taking a trip to the DRC, climbing up to the 11,380ft. volcano edge, and sleeping up there to see it in the dark, it’s a highlight of a lifetime.
This is Mt. Nyiragongo which has the largest lava lake in the world in its crater. It is also one of the most active volcanos in the world. And perhaps most importantly, we climbed to the top and spent the night on the edge of the crater!
