#tbt to visiting Kolmannskuppe, an abandoned mining town near the Atlantic coast of Namibia. German colonizers found huge deposits of diamonds in the early 1900s and quickly built a luxurious town to house the miners, their families, and other affluent Germans in the area. When larger diamond deposits were discovered south of Kolmannskuppe, the town became less and less inhabited, until it was officially abandoned in 1954.
